Homework Expectations 2013 – Room 2

Reading:              Read EVERY night for at least 20 minutes.  Record the books you read in your
                                Reading Log.

Spelling:              We are no longer using the SmartWords programme.  Spelling words will go home
                                every Monday.  Some weeks there may be spelling activities to complete.  Fridays
                                there will be a quick quiz.  Words that are spelled incorrectly will be on the next
                                week’s list.

Maths:                  Room 2 is starting with a focus on basic addition and subtraction facts to 10. 
                               Week 1 everyone will try to answer as many questions as they can in five minutes.
                              This sheet will go home to practice and then Week 6 we will try another
                              worksheet with 60 questions.  Everyone will try to improve their time and or the
                              number of questions they answer correctly. 

Topic:                   See homework grid below.  Chose something you would like to do each week.

Research the meaning of your name and record it.                                                    Are you named after anyone in your family?                                                       Ask your family if there is a story about why they chose your name.	Draw a bird's-eye-view of your street.  Include your house, and things in your yard like pools or trampolines.  What direction is St Mary's School? Then write down how many kilometres it is to travel to school.	Copy or print off a blank map of New Zealand.  Locate up to 20 towns and cities on t
